All that’s left is a Tokyo Magnitude review and a final roundup. ‘But wait a goddarn second here’ I hear you say. ‘You said at the start of every single one of these posts that you had dropped somewhere in the region of 100 anime, and yet you’re stopping on 66? I call bullshit’. Well, that’s because the remaining anime on that massive dropped list consist of a single episode watched and nothing interesting to say about it. But hey, I said 100 anime so I might as well include them all. Prepare yourself for knee-jerk reactions galore!
009-1 – I vaguely remember a lesbian cyborg and bullet tits. Oh, and an absolutely terrible dub. That probably put me off more than the bullet tits
Amagami SS – If we kiss random body parts it should make us stand apart from other crappy dating sim adaptations, right?
Aoi Bungaku Series – I know, how dare I! All I remember is lifelessness and a worryingly Kurozuka-esque vibe without the fight scenes to distract from the dullness.
Asura Cryin’ – Let’s throw in as many things into the first episode to see if the viewer doesn’t notice how lacking this anime is and continue watching out of sheer confusion.
Basquash! – Has a fantastic ending song. However it’s been taken down off Youtube, which totally destroyed any interest I might have had in picking it up again.
Black Jack (2004) – For a guy known as the God of Manga, this was awfully uninspired.
Chu-Bra!! – Hey guys, I swear this is a touching story about teenage girls going through growing pains. It’s about love and friendship and the pains of youth. No really!
Hakuouki – You watched this just because it had hot guys, even though the lead girl was the most ineffectual and personality-less character in existence? You disappoint me girls.
Heroman – I can’t watch kids shows anymore. Even my old favourites back in the days of Cartoon Network. I doubt I could even watch Pokemon anymore.
Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou – Loincloth flashes are the new panty flashes
Kaichou wa Maid-sama! – I hate shoujo
Kämpfer – If we reference the seiyuu then people will laugh. It’s like referencing other anime, except even less imaginative.
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien – Apparantly I watched the first episode of this. I remember a blue-haired girl swimming. I think there were cicadas, but then again there’s always fucking cicadas.
Kimi ni Todoke – I hate shojo mark 2
Ladies versus Butlers! – It is a point of increasing bafflement at how these things work as light novels. Do people get turned on by reading that the main character could see her undies?
Legend of Basara – Wasn’t actually that bad. But I decided to watch Berserk instead. No contest there unfortunately.
Martian Successor Nadesico – I’m pretty sure I watched the first episode of this waaaay back. I remember reading the comments on the youtube video it was on and people were laughing about a Sailor Moon reference. Obviously I missed it.
Mayoi Neko Overrun! – I hate this show. It made me realise how shallow the tsundere character can be made.
Needless – I’ve actually watched this first episode twice. It somehow managed to get even dumber on second viewing.
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu – I remember the two main characters cracking jokes at each other and then giggling. I remained unamused. It was like having canned laughter in an unfunny American sitcom.
Omamori Himari – Booooooooobs
Ristorante Paradiso – So laid back I fell off my chair. I had to play the Black Lagoon opening song on repeat to wake myself up from this snore-fest
Saki – Wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. But still, this is what Gonzo started making? And was later followed by Strike Witches? You used to be great Gonzo *sobs*
Seikon no Qwaser – I watched the censored version the first time around. It was rather…misleading
Sengoku Basara – Not entirely sure why I had a negative reaction to burly guys beating each other up with added homoerotic tension. I usually love that sort of stuff
Skip Beat – I hate shojo mark 3
Taishou Yakyuu Musume – The show stopped being watchable when she stopped doing the musical.
Tears to Tiara – Generic fantasy blah blah
Tenjou Tenge – I think I’ll just watch the opening song a few hundred times more instead of watching the actual anime
Toaru Majutsu no Index – It had an average first episode in a season packed full of awesomeness. It didn’t stand a chance
Trinity Blood – To misquote MAL ‘if you liked Hellsing, then you will be thoroughly underwhelmed by Trinity Blood’.
Uraboku – Gaaaaay. They’re not even proper men. They’re a punch of prancy sissy boys.

I own a volume of the manga and three novels.. the novels /are/ pretty good.
My favorite episode was where Abel got drugged and a loli climbed into his lap.

Aoi Bungaku is probably the one “good” show in that list. Or so I hear. I’ve been meaning to watch it at some point myself.

009-1, Heroman, Nadesico, and Working are all varying degrees of decent. Out of those four, I think you’d like Nadesico the most.
And yeah, Trinity Blood was one of the most disappointing anime series I’ve ever seen. Neat world where nothing interesting every happens. Exactly like Railgun, except with Vash the Stampeed as a vampire.

I’ve been following this blog long enough that I decided to stop failing at leaving comments. I swear, I always vote on these things yet say nothing lol.
The only ones I even liked from this list are Skip Beat! and Sengoku Basara. I don’t think I’d recommend Skip Beat! to you just because of your dislike towards shoujo. Skip Beat! isn’t focused on romance, but… still hesitant XD! I prefer Sengoku Basara anyways, though. If you saw Gurren Lagann, I’d say if you liked the ridiculous over-the-top factor in that then you should enjoy SB XD. Granted, SB does have episodes where it’s mostly just siting around talking, but if you don’t mind historical and tactics talk it shouldn’t be too horrible to get through. Idk, I just love the show for being completely insane, and the character’s quirks are pretty hilarious lol.
And yesss, I’m not the only one who dropped Aoi Bungaku. I only got through one episode, maybe one and a half lol.

Resisting urge to go through this entire list series by series
I voted Aoi Bungaku – it was easily my favourite anime of 2009. An ambitious project to adapt 6 pieces of classic literature, Madhouse pulled it off wonderfully – each arc has different animation and a different director; so even if you weren’t impressed by ‘No Longer Human’ there are 5 other arcs to sample.
Sengoku Basara is also a favourite of mine because its just stupidly fun and massively entertaining. Made me grin like an idiot for the most part – not enjoying the 2nd season as much since they’re trying to work in plot. I don’t watch this show for plot – its all about the engrish, motorbike horses and GAR.
Skip Beat! and Working! are the only other two I could recommend in good faith – but not too sure if you’d like them.
6 arcs? Wasn’t the show like, only 12 episodes long? I don’t think it counts as arcs anymore. Although I’ve heard more than enough people blow their shit over Run Melos so maybe I’ll give that a shot for the hell of things
Well most of the arcs are only 2 episodes. No Longer Human was the exception at 4 episodes.
I say skip No Longer Human since you weren’t fussed on it (although that was my favourite closely followed by Run, Melos!) and give the other stories a go. Brilliant stuff all round so one of the stories is bound to impress you.

I liked Saki as well, but pretty much everything else on that list sucks.

Saki was actually pretty good with its awesome effects whenever they pulled off an insane move (and there are LOTS of those in the series) and its cast of characters. It’s more of the fun moe anime type that you probably wouldn’t enjoy, but just putting this out there in case you decide to check it out again.
To Aru Majutsu no Index’s first season was basically introducing characters and terms to be used later (in the second season I KNOW is gonna be freaking awesome because I read the LN’s). People might get chased away when watching it because of 1. Touma’s incessant preaching and 2. the second arc. However, I’m an Index fan because I love how they flesh out the world and actually go into detail about the ESPer abilities and magic.
WORKING!! had an average first episode but I can easily tell you it’s one of the best slice of life comedies this year. The cast is so wacky and their interactions with each other are so fun that I definitely recommend you pick this up again when you have the time.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama! and Kimi ni Todoke are very good shoujo series but you’d probably hate them at first glance.
And Uraboku doesn’t actually have any BL in it. It’s an okay series for me with decent action and character development.
Uraboku may not have any BL in it but it sure has a lot of guys having arguments with their faces VERY close to each other and LONG pauses while they STARE into each others eyes PASSIONATELY.
I’m still waiting for the moe boom to die. It’s on it’s way at the moment but it’ll still take another 2-3 years before it goes the way of the generic harem
I dropped Sengoku Basara for some reason too. By all rights I should be digging Sengoku Basara s2 as we speak but…I’m not. It seemed like something I’d be into. Maybe it sent me unpleasant subliminal messages? I think the last episode involved rain.

Animes I heard and watch a bit and eventually drop forever. Animes such as Asura Cryin’. This anime was a bit confusing and lame. The characters and their acting wasn’t something like.
Another is Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou. This was ALL ecchi with girls surrounding a guy. BLAH.Seikon no Qwaser another anime was ecchi with guys/girls sucking boobs just to get power. Heck no.
Skip Beat- this was one shoujo i couldn’t stand. this anime was ridiculous.
Animes I finish and liked. First is Hakuouki, because of the multiple hot guys. The flaw in this anime was the girl who is somewhat slow and kind of have no personality except blushing.
Kämpfer- the dumbest anime ever especially how the main character is super dense and the toys are just WTF.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, Kimi ni Todoke- love it. shoujo girl after all. Shame you don’t like shoujo.

No I’m pretty sure cyborg 009 is different. This was a recent remake of an older series, possibly the one you’re referring to. I dunno, I’ve forgotten a lot about it now.

Such a long list…Though I’ll try to comment on the series that I’ve watched at least some of…Apologies if this comment runs a bit long.
Aoi Bungaku – The first story was kinda…meh for me, but I did enjoy watching some of the stories that it adapted, most particularly the 2nd one about the Cherry Blossoms, Run Melos and Hell Screen.
Basquash – It was entertaining while I watched it, but it wasn’t anything to write home about…unless you want to talk about some of the absurdly silly moments the show has. I think I stuck with it mostly for Eclipse…
Hakuouki – Lead girl is as boring as hell…Though I admit that I did like the OP a lot. cough Well, I got through it, but the lack of an actual strong main character to tie the thing together kinda made everything go all over the place.
Heroman – I don’t think I can stick with kids shows anymore either, though I do admit I keep up with the Pokemon movies simply because they come at long-enough intervals to strike just when my need for something nostalgic shows up.
Kaichou wa Maid Sama! – I dropped it because it was going the way I expected every Shoujo romance to go. Sure, I thought the maid cafe scenes were somewhat amusing, but it just didn’t really feel all that entertaining outside of that.
Kämpfer – Why oh why did I put myself through the entirety of this series?
Kimi ni Todoke – I remember mentioning that I liked it because I could really connect with Sawako, but I also already know that this really isn’t your kind of show.
Needless – I watched through all of it and it was entertaining but also utterly stupid. I don’t suggest watching it if you don’t actually want to.
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu – I somehow got through most of it, but it bored the hell outta me. No recommendation here
Sengoku Basara – I voted for this, since you did mention that it does have the general qualifiers for a show you’d like. I admit it took me a few tries to get past the first bit of the first episode, but once I got through that it was a nice fast-paced ride full of fighting and awesomeness — sprinkled with interesting discussion of tactics, etc…
Tears to Tiara – I actually kinda liked it, but it really never brought anything new to the table, it just worked with the existing tropes well enough.
Trinity Blood – It’s not as horrible as it’s made out to be, but it really isn’t all that amazing either. It has some genuinely good moments, but it can get awkward or go into a long lull.
The amount of averageness and stupidity we put outselves through sometimes with our anime viewing habits. I don’t think I’ll be stopping my wild dropping habits anytime soon when so much of the anime featured get a less than stellar response from commenters

Otherwise, props for liking Kimi ni Todoke and Sengoku Basara. I only got to watch KnT really recently, but I loved it oh so very much.

There are several really good series in there, though your mileage may vary obviously. But let me make one thing clear: despite the current poll results DO NOT RESTART INDEX! Not only was it a dim bulb in a season of great shows, it’s just plain bad. One of most plainly stupid harem dynamics I’ve ever seen, mostly boring characters, overly long and what’s worse, BORING mid-battle explanations of attacks that aren’t even cool save one or two of them. Awful.
Completely agree. Academy City is a cool setting, but Index is a terriblely dull series.
I voted for Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. This was one of the first anime I’ve ever watched so I have really fond memories. I’m not positive how it would be reviewed these days but I do recommend you give it another try. Kimi Ga is a very moving love story which I’d still recommend these days.
I found Saki to be hilarious for some reason…I’d crack up so hard whenever Saki’s eye flashed and all the special effects came in to show her laying down a tile, it was over the top ridiculous. I finished the show and I definitely enjoyed it but it felt like a somewhat shallow experience.
I don’t know what you didn’t like about Working!! but I honestly loved that anime, I really sincerely wished there was more. There were parts that just cracked me up to no end. The characters are all crazy in their own way while being interesting to me.
Most of what you’ve written for the other anime are quite true, I can’t see myself picking up most of the anime I’ve dropped because they simply don’t interest me anymore.
I honestly recommend you stay away from To aru – what a boring train wreck. When I first started To aru, I watched about 2-3 episodes when I got fed up and skipped through the proceeding episodes in about 5-10 minute intervals to find that they stayed primarily on one fight scene explaining extraneous crap about uninteresting shit while trying to make it seem suspenseful. I only went back to To aru much later when someone kept recommending it…All the characters are vapid and moronic. I can’t stand the main character and his 20 minute whining and ranting through the whole episode with nothing actually happening. It was just so boring, without anything really happening that I just couldn’t stand it. I’d rather watch To love ru than this junk, honest.
Woah, all this hate for Index! I never knew it existed. I was under the impression people liked that series but preffered Railgun more because it focused on the better characters. Guess I was mistaken.

I don’t get why people hate Index so much either, although J. C. Staff did botch up the pacing of the first season a bit and focused too much on explaining stuff instead of getting to the action. I actually liked when they explained stuff and fleshed out the world and magic/esper powers, but I guess some people don’t have the patience for that?
Then again, I think Index’s way of storytelling is best in its original light novel format, but I love seeing it getting animated too. It’s not the fifth best-selling light novel series of all time (at 9 million books sold total, beating Shana, Haruhi, and Zero no Tsukaima’s sales) for nothing, you know.
Railgun was okay for me but I didn’t like Misaka that much. I can understand why she’s popular (violent tsundere, DFC, shorts) but I can’t bring myself to like her even though everyone else seems to be madly in love with her. I think it’s that immature streak I’m annoyed with (like when she was so insistent on Konori staying away from the gang members just because she felt they were a bad influence on her or something). It’s her tendency to follow justice blindly without considering various factors that annoys me.
Seriously, watch Sengoku Basara. It’s the GARest show you’ll ever see.
Otherwise, Amagami SS only suffers from having to cram all routes of the VN into 24 episodes, and thus a 4-episode arc feels rushed; it’d deffinitely my second choice.
Also, whoever voted for Seikon no Qwaser is a retard, as this show only serves as bad fap material; every plot point serves to deliver more boobs, but that’s the only thing that gets shown. Every character is incredibly shallow, and the plot is stupid and makes little effort to be consistent.
Nadesico made me cry. >.> It was a weird series, filled with amazing moments, then suck, amazing moments, then suck.
Nadesico is basically a bunch of people with sitcom narrative powers, running around in a serious science fiction situation. The first couple of eps are not all that funny or exciting, but after that it really starts to cook. Also, I really like the music, and there’s some interesting points made about fandom. Funny stuff turns into serious plot points, and vice versa. It’s good. (I don’t think you need to get the references to enjoy it, either. They’re just extras.)
When I broke my arm and was staying home all day in deep amounts of pain with ice and drugs and my dog, I did a marathon Nadesico rewatch. It helped keep me sane and distracted.
