As expected from God, not only is He a douche, but also a major cheapstake.
Anyway yeah, Guilty Crown will most likely be a ton of fun, and potentially very brainless. I mean when you get the director for HotD/Death Note with the folks who wrote Code Geass, then you don’t really expect stuff that is thought provoking, at least not in the traditional sense 😛
From the technical side of things, it does look very promising as an action series. You have the concept designs by redjuice, so it’s very JRPG-ish and cool looking, if impractical (seriously, that outfit must be very chilly to wear, and keep together. Not that I’m complaining at all :P) and when you get Nishida Asako to work on the actual designs, after Denpa where she succeeded in the herculean task of actual making the actual character designs look very similar to the concept ones, this bodes well for the general look of the show (then again, a whole lot of her success with Denpa rested in that SHAFT barely animates their shows in the first place hurr durr)
Music wise, I’m okay with Supercell, but since God apparently is a huge fanboy of them I might not be able to get into their music anymore.
I.G. will mean this might get a decent budget and some good looking action in general. And as for noitaminA … well, the old noitaminA that gave me Honey & Clover and shows about adults for adults has been gone for a while now, so I wont cry about a man who once made a show with laser pens and bullets shoot in between crotch’s and boobs is helming a new show here.
Plus it could be interesting right? You have the main lead needing to employee the Power of Friendship (TM) in order to use a camera, a music instrument of choice and a katana to fight mecha and the like, and a Hotwheels who pilots a mecha as well.
So lots of stuff to like, a lot of stuff to cry over, but it’s good all in all.

Deathnote is more a detective kind of genius work. Code Geass can be put more in the genre tactics. Since Lelouche is such a show of to bring miracles forth every fight (and that’s why we love him, Ik).

I hope this show is going to be good. I dropped Death Note halfway and never bothered with Code Geass so using that as argument doesn’t thrill me, it’s quite trivial to point out heavy black marks on these guys. Though seeing that apparently the division of Production I.G. that worked on Sengoku Basara (awesome) and Kimi ni Todoke (good) is working on this, I’m not too worried.
As an aside I will echo how much of an asshole you are for starting with a 26 episode Studio Rikka anime idea. It’s not like they have the funds or manpower to do a weekly anime, let alone one of 26 episodes long. Yoko ‘Plagiarize’ Kanno would also not really be suitable for a Studio Rikka project if you ask me.
Also, Scamp, watch The Wings of Honneamise and Sword of the Stranger. Jesus Harold fucking Christ, that you haven’t seen Sword of the Stranger yet (according to your MAL (YAL?)) is surprising.

There was nothing in Death Note worth watching if you read the manga as I had done. And the OPs/EDs for the show were so horrible that the person responsible for that crap should be shot. I was at an anime-watching low point during Code Geass’ airing, and won’t bother watching it till I run out of stuff to watch which has my preference.

Just to put a downer on your mood: The staff and studio for the Mirai Nikki anime are about as phenomenally awful as you could possibly get. Prepare to be disappointed.

After the eight-minute Mirai Nikki “OVA” that came out preceding this, I doubt anything is capable of dampening my mood any further. I mean… who was that monstrosity even for? It failed every purpose I could imagine for it, from advertising to a cheap little extra to bundle with the manga.
Fans of the manga don’t want to see eight minutes of random disconnected scenes from the first handful of volumes – they want one really powerful scene in that time. Newcomers of any other sort aren’t able to make heads or tails of the same disjointed scenes thrust at them trailer-style, so they come away going “What did I just watch again?” without being sold on the manga or upcoming series in any capacity.
Mirai Nikki OVA! Why do you exist?!

Let’s not forget the Fate/Zero adaptation by Ufotable, story written by Urobuchi Gen (the guy behind Madoka’s story). Another big one is the new Last Exile series, though I’m not quite sold on it’s premise yet.
And for those fans out there, there is a confirmed Shakugan no Shana III (the final season). I’m not hyped up for Shana, but it’s a nostalgic series so I’ll probably follow it for the hell of it.
Persona 4’s staff is a little lacking in experience (Angel Beats director has me slightly worried), but hopefully the story will pull through here.
Either ways, this Fall season looks like it’ll have a ton of heavy hitters.
Can I watch Fate/Zero without watching Fate/stay night?
Since it’s a prequel, yes there shouldn’t be an problem of just watching it without Fate/Stay Night.

CLAMP did not write the story for Code Geass, they only came up with the character designs.
He probably meant, that this story may have similarity’s to Code Geass, but since the character designs are not made by CLAMP but by Redjuice, this will have better character designs. CLAMP is not an animation studio, fyi. They write manga and do character designs mostly. The character design for Guilty Crown is by Redjuice the most well-known illustrator of the multi-talented group called Supercell. But it’s true that Production IG’s animation is one of the better quality ones.

If I could wish for something, I would want an Shinshi Doumei Cross Anime by SHAFT with Shinbo as a director. Or maybe Sakura Hime Kaden. It’s all good to me, as long it’s an Arina Tanemura anime. Her wackiness and her layer-like style would fit perfectly into SHAFTs thing. I can’t imagine how pretty this would look in SHAFT Opening style. ❤

Yes, this was a pretty good post.
Just because I can (and want to!), I’d argue both Death Note and Code Geass had a number of genuinely interesting ideas and themes, even if their execution in terms of storytelling was inconsistent and overdramatic.
In other words, something does not have to be perfect or even entirely made up of high quality storytelling in order to be “thought provoking”.
Unless you’re going to be pretentious or enough of a snob to believe that only the best of fictional works are worth thinking about, I’d say it’s possible to pay attention to the good parts of a flawed show and find something that deserves honest consideration.
And, just as well, the term “deep” is a little too loaded for my taste, but both shows did have a couple of additional layers beyond the obvious “crazy twists are happening, OMG!” that probably led to most of their popularity (and, in turn, to most of their criticism).
Which is one of the reasons I’m looking forward to Guilty Crown myself. Hopefully the lack of Sunrise involvement, for one thing, will make things easier for the Code Geass writing staff and, for another, the absence of having to adapt the second half of Death Note will likewise benefit the director’s work.
Right now, it’s way too early to judge the show based on an extremely basic version of the premise that could literally go anywhere.
And now I can go back to doing actual office work. Joy.
I think you’re missing the reason why I like Geass/Death Note. I like them precisely because of their overly dramatic presentations mixed with DEEP themes and so on
Well, I was only speaking for myself…but let’s try to go over that once again.
Personally speaking, I don’t entirely dislike the overly dramatic presentation. It can work on an emotional level as long as you’re in the right mindset and willing to play by the rules of each show, but I do believe that’s not exactly a sign of having good storytelling if you’re looking at the usual standards of the field. Most critics wouldn’t adviste it.
You can mix overdramatic scenes with good storytelling but that often requires moderation and prudence, something which was relatively rare (though not always entirely absent) in both shows. It requires a balance that was largely not found in either Code Geass or Death Note, especially towards their second halves.
Which is why I don’t have any problem admitting that as a valid complaint and considering it a storytelling mistake, from a purely critical perspective, even if I did partially enjoy it. Does that help?
As for the issue of “deepness” and so forth, my point is just that you don’t need to be a blind idiot or limited to exclusively ironic enjoyment in order to find those shows interesting in certain respects.
I can easily acknowledge the shows have numerous flaws and still discuss something fairly intelligent or reasonable about them, without pretending they are the height of realism or creative accomplishment.
Maybe my point of view is still different from yours, I guess, but hopefully I’ve made things a little more clear here.

Guilty Crown is a perfect example of how an anime can have everything from top grade graphics , big names directing , and excellent sound track , and if you have utterly crap plot and character development , your story fails. Seriously , the budget wasted on this could easily have been used on more worthier plots than this.
